The processing time varies based on your case type and location. For USCIS cases, you can check processing times on their website using your receipt notice. To find your local field office, use the ZIP code lookup tool. For NVC cases, current time frames can be checked online.
Our legal team advises against traveling abroad while a change of status is pending (such as F-1 to H-1B, H-4 to F-1, etc.). For those who have filed an adjustment of status (I-485), it is recommended to maintain non-immigrant status to ensure unrestricted travel abroad. If non-immigrant status is not maintained during the adjustment process, approval of Advance Parole (I-131) is necessary before traveling abroad.
